Liposuction

What is Liposuction?

The accumulation of fat located in regions such as the arms, thighs, belly, neck and back, for example, is an aesthetic concern for men and women all over the world, reducing people’s self-esteem and making it difficult to show their bodies in public. Liposuction surgery is the aesthetic procedure indicated to remove excess localized fat, ensuring a slimmer body and silhouette with desirable contours.

Who is a good candidate for liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is indicated for healthy patients with the main laboratory tests within normal ranges, who exercise regularly, who have an ideal weight for the surgery (check with the Doctor for the ideal BMI), but who are not satisfied with the excess localized fat in their bodies.

What is the difference between Liposuction and Liposculpture?

The main difference between liposuction and liposculpture is that the cosmetic liposuction surgery removes the patient’s localized fat. In Liposculpture, the specialist reinserts the extracted fat in another place, in order to improve the shape of that part of the body, as requested by the patient.

How is a liposuction cosmetic surgery performed?

If the person can undergo surgery, the plastic surgeon indicates the administration of anesthesia, which can be general or intravenous sedation. As the anesthesia takes effect, the area where the fat will be removed is delineated. Then, small holes are made in the region to be treated so that a sterile liquid can be introduced to reduce bleeding and also a thin tube, used to loosen excess fat in the area. Once the fat is detached, it is aspirated with a medical device connected to the thin tube.

  1. Anamnesis:

An appointment is scheduled for assessment and to propose the ideal treatment.

  1. Clinical tests:

The doctor will ask for blood tests and an electrocardiogram, which are required before the surgery.

  1. Hospitalization and surgery:

Usually, the surgery lasts from two and a half to five hours. The patient usually stays in the hospital from 12 to 24 hours.

     4. Post-surgery:

Recovery is very easy and the patient is discharged with bandages on the regions affected during the procedure. Full recovery depends on the patient, but, on average, it takes between 10 and 21 days.

Walking slowly for ten minutes twice a day, for seven days after the procedure;

The patient must wear the surgical belt or compression socks all day and all night for three days, without ever removing them; after 15 days, the belt and/or socks may be removed before sleeping.

The patient may shower after three days, removing the bandages and drying the scars well. Band-aids and povidone-iodine should be applied on the stitches, as indicated by the doctor;

The stitches are removed by the doctor after 8 days.
