Gynecomastia

What is Male Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an aesthetic surgery that corrects excessive breast development in men. This change in men’s breasts causes an effeminate aspect that results in embarrassment and shame in men, causing, in some instances, the desire of removing the local fat and, in other cases, correcting increased size of the Mammary Gland. This is done through a simple procedure with guaranteed results. This condition may be caused by genetic factors, hormonal changes in childhood and the use of certain medications.

Gynecomastia

Who is a good candidate for gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is indicated for men with enlarged breasts and nipples, with a protuberant and effeminate appearance. This is the ideal public for this procedure. Still, an assessment with a surgeon specializing in Male Gynecomastia must be performed before reaching a decision. As such, both patient and physician can analyze the best course for the operation.

What are the expected results of Gynecomastia?

The results of Gynecomastia depend on each individual case. Still, the breasts generally tend to have a size considered normal for men after the surgery, which results in customer satisfaction. Also, the scars are discreet.

How is a gynecomastia cosmetic surgery performed?

The surgeon marks the edge of the areola and makes an incision to remove the excess from the mammary glands. After that, a suture is done, resulting in a superficial scar. In cases of excess fat, liposuction is performed, and the resulting scar is also minimal.

Discover the step-by-step of the breast reduction surgery:

  1. Anamnesis: An appointment is scheduled for a complete physical assessment and to propose the ideal treatment for the patient.
  2. Clinical tests: To perform the surgery, the doctor will request laboratory tests and specific exams, such as a breast ultrasound.
  3. Hospitalization and surgery: The surgery typically takes two hours. The patient usually stays from 6 to 12 hours in the hospital.
  4. Post-surgery: Relative rest for the first 48 hours is recommended to the patients, who should avoid lying down on their side or stomach. In addition, showering is allowed, but the adhesive tapes must not be removed. The bandage must be changed after one week.

Other essential precautions: the patient must take use the recommended antibiotics for one week, use the drain for 7 to 10 days after the surgical procedure to avoid fluid accumulation (seroma), wear the surgical belt for one month after surgery to compress the liposuctioned area and, finally, use the adhesive tapes for 60 days changing them only if there is dirt or signs of secretion.
